Michael Jordan and ‘The Last Dance’ Are Finally Coming to Netflix in the US This Month

ESPN had a monster hit on their hands from April through May thanks to the release of the 10-hour documentary series The Last Dance, a chronicle of the final championship season run by NBA superstar Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Netflix also had a hand in producing the documentary, and even though it was made available on the streaming service in international markets, the only way US audiences could enjoy it was through ESPN. Thankfully, that’s changing very soon.

The Last Dance is officially coming to Netflix in the United States later this month, which means you can relive the incredible documentary series and light up a cigar with Michael Jordan after you watch the Chicago Bulls win their sixth championship title all over again.

Buried in the list of movies and TV shows coming to Netflix next month, you might have missed the The Last Dance coming to Netflix on July 19. It probably has sometime to do with the the increasing likelihood that the apocalypse is growing nearer. Anyway…

If you somehow missed the hype train for The Last Dance the first time around, here’s the trailer for the series:

The Last Dance is directed by Jason Hehir, who pored over 10,000 hours of footage to create this extensive 10-part documentary series. The result is a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of one of the most incredible franchises in basketball history. The series jumps back and forth in time, giving us a full picture of the rise of Michael Jordan, the success he found with the Chicago Bulls, all the championships they won throughout the 1990s, and all the trials and tribulations in between.

After The Last Dance concluded, there has been some debate about whether or not the documentary paints Michael Jordan in too positive of a light. And while I’m sure there’s some bias that comes from his perspective being so prominently featured, Jordan isn’t made out to be a saint in this series at all. We get to see how his intense passion and dedication to winning at all costs may have made him more of a villain on the court than previously thought, and there are a handful of other cracks in his legacy that show he’s not a flawless hero, even if it seemed like he really could fly.

In general, the best thing about The Last Dance is the unprecedented look at how an NBA franchise operates, and it just so happens to be one of the most successful teams in the history of basketball. Chicago Bulls head coach Phil Jackson, and key players like Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, Ron Harper, Toni Kukoc, Horace Grant, B.J. Armstrong, and more all participate in interviews, along with plenty of their opponents over the years. Even if you’re not a dedicated sports fan, this documentary is still worth your time.

The Last Dance is available through the ESPN app right now, but you can catch it on Netflix starting July 19.

‘Mad Men’ Will Be Streaming For Free on IMDb TV This Month

Mad Men, one of the best TV shows in the history of the medium, recently left Netflix, which was a huge disappointment. But there’s light at the end of the tunnel: while the series will no longer be streaming on Netflix, it will be streaming on the Amazon-owned IMDb TV soon. And by soon I mean this month. There will also be a disclaimer added to the season 3 episode “My Old Kentucky Home”, which features a scene where John Slattery‘s character Roger Sterling is seen in blackface.

I was saddened when Mad Men left Netflix, but I’m relieved to know it’ll be streaming elsewhere in a few weeks. IMDb TV, a streaming service owned by Amazon, will be streaming the series in full on July 15. Amazon also snapped up the international rights, and will begin streaming Mad Men on Amazon Prime Video around the world.

This is good news overall, although it sounds like here in America we’ll only be able to watch on IMDb TV, and I’d much rather have the series streaming on Prime Video. IMDb TV is a free service, which means it has ads. But I suppose this is a good way for Amazon to get people to start paying attention to the service instead of completely ignoring it, which is pretty much what everyone does now.

Variety reports that a disclaimer will be added to the episode “My Old Kentucky Home”, which features a character in blackface. The disclaimer reads:

This episode contains disturbing images related to race in America. One of the characters is shown in blackface as part of an episode that shows how commonplace racism was in America in 1963. In its reliance on historical authenticity, the series producers are committed to exposing the injustices and inequities within our society that continue to this day so we can examine even the most painful parts of our history in order to reflect on who we are today and who we want to become. We are therefore presenting the original episode in its entirety.

Adding a disclaimer like this rather than pulling the episode entirely is the right move. It’s also worth noting that virtually all the characters on Mad Men are meant to be less-than-great people (I’ll stop short of calling them “bad” since the show is much more complex than that).

Worms Rumble Announced, Featuring Real-Time Combat And A Battle Royale Mode

Team 17 has announced a new Worms game to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary, and it's unlike anything we've seen before from the series. The game, Worms Rumble, is a real-time combat game for up to 32 players, with cross-play enabled. It will release for PC, PS5, and PS4.

Each player will control a single worm in either Team Deathmatch or Battle Royale (both solo and squad) combat, and will battle it out over huge, semi-destructable environments. The game will receive regular content updates to add new levels and worm customizations, and there's a rank system to unlock cosmetics.

Weapons available at launch include the iconic Bazooka, Hand Cannon, Baseball Bat, Assault Rifle, and Shotgun. The trailer below also shows the Holy Hand Grenade making an appearance.

There will be seasonable events and challenges to take part in, too. You can register now to try the game's closed beta, which will run from July 15 at 4 AM PT until July 20 at midnight PT, if you're curious about how Worms will work in real-time.

In a statement sent to press, lead designer Adam Findlay called Worms Rumble "a significant rethink around the Worms experience," and said that he hopes that the cross-play 32-player experience will "unite the community and newcomers to the series in wonderfully Worms-tastic mayhem."

There is no mention of a potential Xbox or Nintendo Switch release, so console players will need a PlayStation 4 or 5 to jump in.

The last game in the Worms series was Worms: W.M.D., which was a more traditional turn-based Worms combat game. It received an 8/10 in GameSpot's review, and reviewer Jason D'Aprile called it "easily the best game in the Worms series in several years."
