Freeform Cancels 'Famous in Love' After 2 Seasons

Freeform is calling "cut!" on the Hollywood-set drama "Famous in Love" after two seasons. Its May 30 season finale will be its last unless the show is rescued by another outlet.

The series came from "Pretty Little Liars" creator I. Marlene King and told the story of an aspiring actress (Bella Thorne) who lands the role of a lifetime in a big-budget blockbuster and embarks on the roller coaster ride of celebrity life.

Rumors began swirling earlier this week about the show's cancellation and Thorne tweeted that she was "upset" to find out her show has possibly been canceled without the courtesy of a phone call:

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Freeform wanted a third season of "Famous in Love" and asked Hulu to pony up more money to help with its high cost. Unfortunately, Hulu said no, perhaps because of a decrease in viewership in Season 2.

There were also rumors of strife behind the scenes, with insiders revealing clashes between King and Thorne over the latter's purported "diva-like behavior" on set.

King will continue to have a relationship with Freeform, which picked up her "Pretty Little Liars" spinoff "The Perfectionists" this year.
