Dave Bautista Proves It is Impossible to Talk About ‘Avengers 4’ Without Spoiling It

avengers 4 spoilers

After the shocking ending of Avengers: Infinity War, any bit of info the public learns about Avengers 4 is going to be a bit of a spoiler. Case in point: Dave Bautista just provided an update on both Avengers 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that proves it’s impossible to talk about upcoming MCU films without revealing spoilers.

Spoilers follow, obviously.

At the end of Avengers: Infinity War, a huge chunk of the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes up in smoke – literally. Thanos wins, snapping his fingers and erasing a huge swath of characters from existence. All of the Guardians of the Galaxy, save for Rocket (and Nebula, if you want to count her as one of the Guardians) vanish into thin air. And yet, it’s hard to believe that these “deaths” will be permanent. After all, we already know that James Gunn is making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and it would be impossible to make that film with all the Guardians truly gone for good.

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the MCU, knows this just as well as anyone. In a new interview with Collider, Bautista went ahead and stated the obvious – despite Drax’s apparent death in Infinity War, he’ll be back for Avengers 4 and Guardians Vol. 3:

“I got a lot of texts saying, ‘I can’t believe you’re dead, your character is dead.’ They were really like heartbroken and I was like ‘I’m gonna be in four. I’m gonna be in Guardians 3.’ I don’t know how they’re bringing me back, yeah but somehow I’m going to make it because, as far as I know, I am going to be in Guardians 3, so I have to be back.”

So there you have it: if you were worried that most of the seemingly-dead characters in Infinity War would return, worry no more. Of course, this presents an interesting problem for Marvel. We’ve touched on this problem before, wondering how the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel was going to handle its marketing. Spider-Man is one of the characters who vanishes at the end of Infinity War, yet the Homecoming sequel hits theaters on July 5, 2019. That’s little more than two months after Avengers 4 debuts, which means we’re definitely going to get some Homecoming sequel trailers before Avengers 4 hits. And it’s impossible to cut a Spider-Man trailer without Spider-Man.

Marvel has painted themselves into a corner here. Trailers and other marketing for Avengers 4 will ultimately give the game away – everyone you thought was dead isn’t dead after all. Of course, that probably won’t matter in the end. Even if every single scene from Avengers 4 ends up getting spoiled, audiences will still flock to the theater to see it.
